16 WAY INVITATIONAL EVENT – 26 & 27 MAY 2018
Experienced skydivers are converging on Adrenalin Skydive Goulburn this weekend in preparation for the largest Australian formation record attempt to take place at Perris Valley, California in May 2019.
This weekend will see two groups of 16 practice under the tutelage of super coaches Laurence Garceau and Melissa Harvie who have both represented Australia successfully on an international level and specialise in coaching for these events at the highest level. Participants are travelling to Goulburn from interstate and overseas as well as from all over New South Wales to prepare for the record attempt.
The last Australian Big Way record was set in 2015 with 119 people in freefall formation where jumpers link up in freefall before flying away from one another and opening their parachutes. Seven planes took the skydivers to 19,000ft that year and the record was set on the final day of the competition. Four skydiving instructors from Adrenalin Skydive Goulburn are amongst those record holders.
In preparation for the next record attempt next year participants practice in smaller groups in Australia (such as at Goulburn this weekend) and then fine tune the formation in further training camps at Perris Valley commencing on 23 May next year. The actual record attempt will take place between 31 May and 3 June 2019.
